The Monster Mash
Every year I like to have a couple big projects lined up for art fairs and craft markets in the late summer and early fall. Over time I developed a cast of cutesy characters loosely based on the Universal Monsters.
Primarily focused on digital prints and postcards, I've also created boxed vinyl figurines, 3D retro game assets, and apparel featuring these characters.

Packaging
My goal was to ensure that the figures I sold were handmade yet had a professional appearance. To achieve this, I designed boxes to store them in, drawing inspiration from Hallmark's Keepsake Collection's boxes with my own spin on box art.
Each gives a short description of the character and how they relate to the other 3, in hopes of making you falling in love with the cute little guys.

PSX Style Models

Retro Renders
Designed using as few tris as possible, these are textured and modeled in the style of N64, PlayStation 1, and Dreamcast games. The models average 700 tris across the 4 of them, and all their textures fit onto 256x256px canvases.
They're rigged for animation, primarily, with some optimization for Unity.

Brotherhood of Beasts
Fantasy Multimedia Story

A Family Affair
This project is a collection of products, video game assets, digital paintings, and portraits that tell the story of my brother's and my Dungeons and Dragons campaign. It's a love letter to the two guys that shaped me into the man I am - and the story they created along with me.
These pieces showcase a breadth of work in a wide spectrum of mediums, and some of my personal evolution as an artist.
3D Printed Miniatures

Maximum Miniatures
This project marks my first foray into SLA Resin Printing. The models were first drafted as 2D concepts that were then reimagined in 3D using the iPad Pro's Nomad Sculpt application.
After supporting and slicing in Formlabs, these boys got primed and painstakingly hand-painted over the course of a few weeks. A matte clear coat was applied - which if I'm honest, I'd have choses a satin if I could do it over again.
These hard resin statuettes sit at 4" tall. Not a great size for Dungeons and Dragons gameplay, but they were meant to stand alone as oversized miniatures.

Cardboard Companions
Each figurine has a holographic trading card to accompany it, with the back displaying a short story that pushes forward the story of this beastly trio.
Cards were handmade using transparent inkjet paper adhered to foil cardstock.

Song of Shadows Mini Game

Dungeon Crawling
Coded in C++, this tiny rogue-like is in pre-alpha still, but was a hobby of mine for a few months.
It features 5 playable characters each with 2 standard abilities, a passive, and 1 unlockable ability that can be found via scrolls in the dungeon.
The game loops randomly generated mazes with enemies that need to be defeated before the next floor is unlocked. Some floors are dark, which will require additional care when traversing.
The enemies fight back yet, but if you're looking to blow off some steam by killing dozens of goblins, you can play the game here:

Stealing Jokes
Comedy Feature Film

"My Mom Just Always Told Me My Favorite Wrestler Was My Dad"
Mike Young needed a bunch of posters to hang up in the disgustingly unkempt room of Freddy, played by Dustin Ybarra. Freddy never knew his dad, and thus had to look up to the luchadores that came on TV after his mother's telenovelas as father figures. His favorite was El Leon, a brave and righteous fighter. He never got the chance to meet El Leon, though. His only autograph is from a C-List luchadore, The Flea.
I also made a custom card that Freddy preciously cared for, unlike the rest of his apartment. Double Sleeved.

Graphic Posters

Astute Citizens
A secondary antagonist of the film is a local police officer, who's home is very musical and well kept. He needed safe, non-copyrighted posters for his basement, so I kept it classy with some bau haus inspired posters.

Wrap Gift

Beautiful People
As a reward for not breaking any of my props (they got pretty close, believe me), I made the cast little caricatures in time for the wrap party.

Sci-Fi Short Film

What Happens When A Robot Gets Fired?
This 15-minute film was made as my senior thesis within Michigan State University's Fiction Filmmaking program. In addition to the hand made costume, a large amount of print media was needed for the set design and promotional material.
The costume itself was an amazing experience in creating something that blends visual effects with practical costuming. Intentional planning and testing was taken in order to make my life in post much easier when it came time to add in his mechanical eyeball.
End Credits
Motion Design
I always wanted to design a full credits scene for a motion picture. Here, I got a little taste of it in the short. The motion design was based on promotional materials I'd made for the movie, and the music was made by the incredibly talented, Lansing-local band Vincie D.
Set Decoration

Disco Future
Art was needed to populate the world, and the aesthetic for the film was largely inspired by the warmth of 1970s decor and art, with vibrant Magentas and Cyans to bring the future to the era of disco.
Some art was directly inspired by other art pieces, such as the famous power and equality picture used in Arri's apartment.
Promotional Material

Posters
The film had two posters made - one primary (right) and one handed out as a special edition for those who came to the screenings at the four festivals around the state.
For the primary poster, I wanted it to be fully illustrated on a limited color palette. As an illustrator myself I'd have felt like a louse if I just made a simple floating heads poster for my own movie.
The secondary poster takes inspiration from the promotional artwork for Daft Punk's Random Access Memories.

Self Portraits

Unconventional Self Love
When I was a kid I always drew myself in a green shirt. I don't know why. My first oil self-portrait, I unconsciously chose green as my background color. I can't explain it but, green's my color.
Does that mean I have to draw myself with such a big nose? No. But I do.

Think It Up Write It Down
Online Children's Literacy Tool
During COVID, non-profits that normally toured the country doing elementary school assemblies were at a loss for how to reach their audiences. I worked with a team of programmers on one solution: an online literacy course for children ages 4-8. It was structured in the form of a choose your own adventure game, and that game needed assets.
I worked on the backdrops for the program, drawing inspiration from the amazing background paintings of Joe Murray on his cartoons Camp Lazlo and Rocko's Modern Life.
